I'm Having My First Catharsis

Recently I have become very interested in the band Blind Melon. I first started listening to their music over the summer and I now have a great deal of appreciation for their lyrics. The song "Change" is a personal favorite. It always seems to draw out emotion and meaning for me whenever I hear it. It speaks about how change is an essential part of life, like an inevitable force that cannot be avoided. It speaks about how people are fearful of this change and that is why we as a society cast judgement, discriminate, and ridicule the people around us. Its a song about acceptance and empathy. It sends the message of loving humanity and undestanding the human experience as a process we all undergo; a truth. Humanity is not something to be judge but rather understood as something that lives in all of us. For me, this song sheds light on the human experience and helps us to try and understand it for what it truly is, human.

My Favorite Artist

Bob Marley is perhaps the most notorious reggae artist of all time. He is also my personal favorite artist and musician. He was not only a leader but a source of inspiration during a period of discrimination. He shined light upon the ignorance and turmoil that encompassed modern society. His music, his art, promoted fundamental ideals of peace, love, and happiness. He promoted living life for what it truly is rather than focusing on materialistic values. It was this understanding of living life in a kind and clear way that drove him to become such an inspirational figure. He expressed these beliefs and principles in his music which is why he will always be my favorite artist. -"Money can't buy life." his dieing words.

Art and the Human Condition

The human condition encompasses all of the experiences of being human. Human beings all posses a series of biological events that they must learn to react to and cope with. The ongoing way in which humans go about this process is the human condition. The term is also used in a metaphysical sense, to describe the joy, terror, fear, and other emotions associated with being and existence. Expressing the human condition through art is something that is nearly as old as art itself. What better way to express universal feelings, trials, and tribulations than through self expression? Art and the human condition go hand in hand. You can't have one without the other. Perhaps the human condition is one of the main foundations on which art is based upon. Perhaps, in a sense, the human condition is a work of art in itself.

Film is Art

Film is a form of art that ecompasses not only the motion picture industry, but individual motion pictures as well. They are sometimes refferred to as cultural artifacts. This means they are directly influenced and affected by the specfic cultures they represent. These influences provide the foundations on which film is expressed as an art. Film is considered to be a very powerful form of art in today's society. It has the ability to educate, persuade, convict, draw out emotion, and display humanity in its many forms for the viewer to see. It is perhaps the most widely viewed forms of art in the world today.
